Microsoft confirms official support of Blu-ray - xbox 360 fan community

It's been bandied about before, but now we have real word from Microsoft that they are indeed going to be supporting the defacto winner of the format war. With Sony saying that they were "in talks" with Microsoft, and a clam-like strategy being adopted by Microsoft, no one was quite sure just how spited they were towards Blu-ray. This is jus the confirmation of thingswith Microsoft admitting that it is trying to figure out the best way to connect with Blu-ray, and that it is working on different ways to integrate the Blu-ray devices and technology into Microsoft products across the board, including Windows.

True. I thought that myself. Blu-ray has won the format war but it has 2 other worthy opponents: DVD and streaming HD content. Regular old DVD still dominate the market, for the average person especially those without HDTVs, DVDs may be "good enough" for them. Online HD movies is another great reason to not by any blu-ray disc, who would?? You've got HD content on your xbox 360, cable box, apple store, ect.

great news but i dont think im gonna buy a blu ray add on thingy for xbox 360 if one comes out.

Blu-ray is a format that is used to hold content on a disc. HD quality videos are what you download from the marketplace.

HD DVD and Blu-ray are just different ways of encoding video and content on a disc. Quality of the raw "HD" video files(probably mpeg2) are identical.

True but the mass amount of stuff, (50GB) and the higher transfer rate is what gives it a mutch clearer HD picture.
